WESTMONT, IL April 23, 2001 Silvon Software, a leading provider of analytic applications for business performance management, today announced support for the new IBM eServer p660 and p620 midrange UNIX servers, which supply the industry-leading technology critical to running e-business applications. The IBM eServer systems, introduced by IBM earlier today, are powered by IBM's breakthrough Silicon-on-Insulator (SOI) microprocessor technology and run the new AIX 5L operating system.
Silvon's announced support of the new IBM eServer p660 and p620 servers follows the company's February 26, 2001, announcement to support the IBM pSeries platform in its continuing commitment to provide supply chain industry customers with an open, cross-platform architecture. Silvon's Stratum solutions are designed to monitor business performance indicators such as product profitability, customer purchasing patterns, customer loyalty, web site performance and marketing campaign effectiveness. With the performance, scalability and analytical power of these solutions on the new p660 and p620 systems, managers and analysts can leverage large volumes of complex data in e-business, CRM and ERP systems to drive strategic business decisions.
"Silvon is an early adopter of the IBM p620, which offers great price performance and scalability to support enterprise-class business applications," said John H. Hughes, Senior Vice President, Silvon Software, Inc. "We found the p620 featuring the AIX(R) operating system to be an excellent platform for supporting dynamic businesses with high data volumes, like those enterprises which employ Silvon's Stratum suite of solutions for business intelligence and analytical CRM."
The rack-mounted one- to six-way IBM eServer p660 is an ideal machine for IT environments where systems are stacked to conserve floor space. The world's fastest 6-way transaction server, the p660 conforms with the Network Equipment Building System (NEBS) standards that telecommunications companies rely on to measure the durability of computers and other equipment. Offering NEBS Level 3 compliance -- the most stringent level of certification -- the p660 has been hardened to withstand high temperature, violent shaking, lightning strikes, airborne contaminants, fires, and electrostatic discharge.
The one- to six-way IBM eServer p620 is a high-performance deskside server with the power to run the IT infrastructure at small and medium-size companies. The p620 is also well-suited to serve as a distributed application server for larger companies employing Web hosting, enterprise resource planning, supply chain and customer relationship management applications.
The eServers run IBM's new AIX 5L, the industry's first operating system that supports both POWER and Intel Itanium architectures and has a strong affinity for Linux.
"Working in partnership with leading independent software vendors (ISVs), IBM offers a comprehensive portfolio of software and hardware solutions to effectively manage a company's e-business infrastructure," said Mike Kerr, vice president, IBM Web Server unit. "As an industry-leading platform for business performance management and CRM analytic software, the new IBM eServer p660 and p620 systems meet the business-critical needs of our customers' most demanding computing environments."
