Westmont, Il.--Dec. 9, 1998--Silvon Expands Services at its Data Warehousing Application Competency Centers to Support Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 Silvon Software, Inc. today announced that it has joined Microsoft's Data Warehousing Alliance. As a member of the alliance, Silvon will support new technical specifications for the Microsoft(R) Data Warehousing Framework, an open architecture for developing interoperable data warehouse solutions.
Underscoring its commitment to providing open data warehousing solutions, Silvon has expanded the services of its Data Warehousing Application Competency Centers to support the implementation of data warehouses on Microsoft SQL Server 7.0.
In the first half of 1999, Silvon DataTracker, the core product in Silvon's Application Foundation, will offer support for Microsoft's OLE DB for OLAP and incorporate the common infrastructure and interoperability benefits of the Microsoft Repository. This will enable Silvon DataTracker users to share information on data warehouse metadata and promote interoperability between different data warehouse products, which is becoming increasingly important to the successful development and deployment of data warehouses.
"Microsoft's Data Warehousing Framework promotes solution interoperability, which is vital to the supply chain-focused data warehouse applications we deliver to our customers on Microsoft SQL Server 7.0," said John Hughes, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Silvon. "An open platform, supported by the expertise of our Competency Centers, enables our clients to gain more from the solutions we deliver. Microsoft's Data Warehousing Framework helps us deliver faster, more robust supply chain decision support applications that offer a low cost of ownership to our customers."
"Silvon's Application Foundation will leverage the Microsoft Data Warehousing Framework to deliver more supply chain application functionality to the end user, tighter integration with enterprise solutions, and the benefits of the scalable Microsoft NT SQL Server 7.0 platform," said Andrew Hoover, group industry marketing manager, Microsoft Business Intelligence/Data Warehousing Division.
The Microsoft Data Warehousing Framework is a technical road map that enables customers to integrate data warehousing tools from multiple vendors. It makes optimal use of technologies such as the Microsoft Repository, OLE DB, Data Transformation Services and OLAP Services, which are integrated components of SQL Server 7.0.
The Data Warehousing Framework is available to vendors who participate in Microsoft's expanded Data Warehousing Alliance program. The Data Warehousing Alliance helps shape Microsoft's emerging data warehousing criteria, APIs and the industry-leading features of innovative products that include Microsoft SQL Server 7.0.
